Pitching In

New sponsors for the “Trident Leagues” - a phrase that has never previously been used as far as I’ve seen, but I quite like.

The statement from the league is full of good intention and we should be grateful for the sponsorship and the vague promises of further investment and initiatives, but I don’t understand any of it.

It’s a model for the bookies to subvert any advertising ban, which is fine, but I can’t see what’s in it for them as nobody will associate Pitching In with Ladbrokes and Coral via GVC, so it seems an odd bit of promotion.

Either way, and putting the knee jerk cynicism to one side, it should mean sponsorship money for the clubs and maybe more cash and community initiatives to follow, so it’s a good thing.

And not having some of the oddities that we’ve had in the past - Beazer Homes and some Cointreau based alcopop that I can’t remember - has to be another plus, although it will stop us from being used as a lazy punchline on panel shows on Dave.

You have to smile at the 'encouraging volunteers to pitch in' section. Who do they think runs the clubs and does all the work now? ::)

I would imagine that the bookies have some sort of behind-the-scenes obligation to invest a fraction of their hard-earned cash in "community-based initiatives" and here we are.
