National Poetry Day 2019

Post by AwayDayYeltz » 21 Mar 2019, 18:59

To mark the occasion, I challenge the resident bard to write a poem summing up this season! >:D

I am surely that Andy will produce much better, but here is my humble (and rushed) offering

There was a strong feeling back in July,
That things were going to get better.
Alas, on that we could not rely,
And plans, we could not stick to the letter.
John, he went into the past, And Larry came in, but not with a blast.
We floundered and scraped the odd win.
A goal, sometimes, seemed almost a sin.
Rebuild, we will, in that you can trust,
In the Southern South Central (or bust)

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see
The next Friday signing, number 63

I’m expecting someone to take my words and make a song from them

I doubt it would catch on, anyway.

If it did, it would be very, very frightening. Indeed

Forget your Queen for we are Kings
At losing games and what it brings
Going down? Never fear
Might even do the same next year

I jest, we cannot do the same
Next year we'll surely up our game
The tide will turn, hopefully
Twelve months time, full of glee

That though is a future time
And may be worth another rhyme
For now though only desperation
Simply awful. Relegation.
