Hill still keen to strengthen his Halesowen Town squad

BOSS John Hill says he is still looking to improve his Halesowen Town squad.

The Yeltz got the new campaign off to a winning start when beating Lowestoft Town 1-0 at the Grove last Saturday.

Lee Hughes converted an injury-time penalty to bag their first three points.

They then suffered a 2-1 defeat at Banbury United despite James Roberts netting his first for the club.

Hill knows his side need time to gel but is still keen to add more options.

He said: "We know we still need players to come in and improve us and we are still looking to add more.

"We need to be better in defence and that is one area we do want to strengthen. We are also currently waiting on international clearance for another player as well.

"It was good to get off to a winning start against Lowestoft, especially at home in front of our own fans, who were brilliant.

"Banbury just showed they are a tough nut to crack on Tuesday night. They were direct and efficient and managed to get the win. We had a lot of corners and gave it a good go but they held firm and that's credit to them.

"It has been an okay start overall but it is still early days. There are a lot of clubs who are fancied to be right up there who have less points than us at the moment.

"We do have a lot of new players and it will take a bit of time for them to bed in.

"Dan Platt has made some good saves and done what he's had to do but we still need to help him out a little more."

Tom Warmer will miss this Saturday's trip to Kettering Town with a hamstring injury but he's the only major injury concern.

As a side note, it's worth mentioning that the Banbury manager, Mike Ford, used the exact line 'direct and efficient and managed to get the win' during his post-match interview on Banbury radio. I'm assuming the line in the article is a reporting error as it's their managers quote, not ours!

The interview is worth a listen if anyone gets time, thanks to Seamus for posting the link on the match thread.

Will be interesting to see who the player is that is awaiting international clearance.

Maybe we're signing somebody from Brumagum? ;)

Bet it's someone currently playing with a Welsh fa club , probably Aberystwyth or Newtown

I was thinking along those lines. Melvin or Denny?

We're not lacking in midfield, so I'd be surprised.
