Poor relations.....

I'm not sure if HH will still disagree with me, but this really is a p**s poor league and it's probably going to be won by a p**s poor team. Surely, in an area as big as this, with so many local teams, we can find better players than this. Am i just conning myself by thinking that we are still a big club that players might want to come and play for, if only to get noticed by bigger clubs? Unfortunately we cannot compete with the likes of Stourbr*dge, Solihull and Hednesford anymore i guess, but are we now further down the pecking order than teams like Chasetown, Sutton, Romulus, Evesham or Rushall when it comes to attracting players? If we are, it's a long way back.

It's a terrible league and the sad part is we've fitted in very nicely. I would imagine that we are firmly in the Sutton / Romulus wage category now and to be honest if you were a local player would you sign for us to play in this league? Regular 100+ mile journeys to play in front of 60 people? No thanks.

You're probably only one of a couple of dozen who've seen way more Halesowen Town teams over the years, so I certainly ain't going to disagree with you, I'll just say that we were £200k, £300k or 20p in debt over the period of MM / GIs (depending on who you believe) and so when Steve Lynch took over he stated, quite rightly, that the club would be run sensibly and this season would be one for consolidation. That said, it is a shit league and you've hit the nail on the head when you say those teams are attracting better players than us. If this league is as poor as this for the next few seasons then I imagine sooner rather than later we will surface from the shite. Afraid it may be a long process, maybe too long for some............. I'm sure you and I will still be watching if we can though.

The point about travelling 100+ miles to play in front of 60+ people isn't Halesowen's fault. That'll be the non league structure down to the FA............ As for being firmly in the Sutton / Romulus wage category. Dream on, they're both on double the budget of us. Having spoken to a couple of Tivvy 'officials' on Saturday their budget is also close twice as much as ours. So if it's to be won by throwing money at it, I'll ask anyone this. Who's going to foot the bill?

I agree with HalesowenHarry.
Yes it was always going to be tough this season but what Steve is doing is ensuring the club stays out of debt, which after the last few years is a relief. We are living within our means and if that means we have to spend another season down here then so be it. The youth team are doing fantastically well and they will be moving up next season (and they wont go off anywhere else as they have an affinity with the club already). This is also why we have rebuilt links with the junior section, some of them are our future players who wont go to Stourbr*dge because they have been with us for years.
The on the field stuff will come in time now the off field stuff is sorted.

Who said it was the club's fault as to what league we're in? I take your point about the budget though - I was having a guess which is why I said "I would imagine..." - but it only goes to further prove why we can't attract better players. That said, I think we should be doing better with the players we've already got. It's got nothing to do with "throwing money at it" and anyone who advocates that approach must have a pretty short memory. Recognising the difficult position the club is in does not mean we should sit back and accept what we've been served up with lately.

HH, i have to say you make some very valid points and yes we will both be there, god willing, to see the good times return. Unfortunately it will not be with the current team.

Thick, thin, up, down, done the lot. Doesn't change the fact that there are NOT a lot of good players in this team though.
1 or 2 and a decent keeper.
