Just read this, new league at Step 3 with games being reduced to 22.

More local derbies hopefully for us and less travelling? Assume this will be more of a Midlands league?

I read somewhere else that that was to be the case. I don't envy the individuals who will have to decide what counts as Midlands.

from what I understand it will be North to Stoke, South to Beaconsfield, East out to Kings Lynn and West to Merthyr

It certainly has its advantages for Halesowen as a football club indeed!

The article suggests that it will be for 2018-19, whereas the leaked document says 2017-18?

Too right!

At a very quick look at that list of clubs, that's a lot of travel East on the A14 and not so many more "Midlands" games.

In general this makes a lot more sense of course, as I assume there will now be 8 teams moving up and down between steps 2 and 3? If so, that should make it easier to get up - not that right now we're really threatening to get promotion however you divide up the teams

Not sure I see the point of this. Surely it has always been that as you rise through the pyramid the less local the leagues become. There might as well be 4 Premier Leagues otherwise to stop Sunderland travelling to Bournemouth. It doesn't even work well at our level. It might mean less travelling for us, but teams who are forcefully promoted up the pyramid to make up the numbers will now have to travel considerably further than they do now. Its all just swings and roundabouts. If a club has ambition to rise through the structure at some point longer journeys still has to kick in. Someone at the FA has got too much time on their hands I think. Stop messing!

I believe the rationale behind it is teams in the Northern league have been refusing promotion to the NPL because of how far south they have to go costs et cetera. Don't quote me on that though. It's one of the hazards of being in the middle of the country that we can be placed anywhere because you can get to almost anywhere in a good amount of time from the Midlands
