Going south?

Post by juanillo » 08 Mar 2015, 18:14

I know the season still has 10 games to run, but the way the other leagues are going, it seems more than likely we will be switched back to the Southern Premier next season as nearly happened back in August.

If Stalybridge, Colwyn Bay and Hyde are relegated from the Conference North as appears likely, they'll all go go into the Northern Premier. Only Gloucester and Brackley both going down would change things.

The promoted teams will also be more northern than us. So as I see it our three seasons in the north may be over.

Any thoughts?

Didn't those friendly folk at Grantham play in the south as well? I may be wrong on that?

It would be a shame if after only one season in the NPl we end up going south. As well as the team have undoubtedly done this year it has also been a transitional season with many new places to visit and new teams to play. Going into the Southern we'd almost be starting again as there will no doubt be new teams since last time the Yeltz were there.

From those who've been going for a while they've commented on how much better organised the NPL is and the clubs we've been too have been friendlier. Surely moving Kings Lynn to the Isthmian League and then finding a team from there to go south will be better suited. Separating us and Dourbridge is not the most practical!

I thought there was a ruling that you would be kept in a league for two years if you've been moved? If this is the case, this should mean them lot up the road stop in the Nothern, but I don't know if it would help us.
I'll be mortified if we go back to playing all the Bristol suburbs...

As things stand they may choose to move 2 so us and our neighbours or possibly Kings Lynn and Stamford, but more likely to be us I think.

Fingers crossed we wont be moving back down Saaaaathh.

This is normally a fairly reliable source, but as ever down to the FA.

It's difficult to argue the case with that isn't it? Seems very logical all things considered. That said, when have the FA ever considered logic?

On the spreadsheet if the season ended now Witton are shown as being reprieved . Would this be a reprieve due to Saisbury and Hereford folding and having ro maintain numbers at Step 3?

Discussion on the boards is that King's Lynn are first in line to be shifted, or at least that's the sentiment. I'd like to say Barwell must be in danger of being moved as well, as didn't they shift Corby out at the start of this season, and therefore I'm hoping the north/south line might be slightly diagonal?

I think the magnitude of the 9 Derby has shown the league that they have to keep us together with the cricketers, whichever way.

Question though- regardless of our new friends in the north, and geographical loyalties, is there an argument that the Southern league is (ironically) softer? Stourbr*dge made the switch this season and have really struggled. Plus the league may get tougher next year with the addition of Salford and/or Darlo?
