The Yeltz 1946 - 2015

Around 25 years ago I was interested to find out how the records of Yeltz players from our 1980s FA Vase era compared to former players. So I set about researching our playing records from the Club’s 1946 reformation after World War II.
From that aspect, I’ve been pleased to see that, after my latest visit to Dudley Archives last week, my most recent research of the early 1950s seasons has seen Ronnie Dugmore emerge as our 2nd highest goalscorer and our centre-half Wilf Jones played in our very first game in 1946, continuing until 1958 while rarely missing a game. Jimmy Meaney was another loyal Yeltz man from that era and captained us to our first Cup competition victory when we won the Worcestershire Senior Cup in May 1952 (pictured below).
1954 also brought a 0-11 home thrashing by Wolves “A” and (you may wish to look away now for this is not good reading xx ) a 1-8 against S**********e while 1952 saw a 10-2 goal spree against Whitwick Colliery with Colin Brookes (no, not the same one) in goal. These scorelines have never been repeated.
I have now compiled in various formats a total of 3,422 match records to the current date, 1,540 won 1,176 lost 706 drawn, goals for 6,408 goals against 5,379. I reckon these to be upwards of 99% of the matches we have played since 2nd September 1946 .
There are avenues that can be pursued to achieve 100% but for now, while the project continues, I shall put it to one side, the time of year approaches to enjoy another New Rd season. If the proverbial bus should come along tomorrow, today I’m content with the situation as it is.
Matchday programmes from the 1940s/1950s often refer to pre-war Club records kept by Claude Eades, a staunch Yeltz fan. I’ve been unable to find anyone connected with The Grove who knew or remembers Claude. If anyone is able to do so and is aware of what may have happened to those pre-war records, please contact me or any Club official
