Skelmersdale

An interesting 1st match for our NPL debut.
I remember seeing them in a semi-final replay in the FA Amateur at The Hawthorns against Hendon in 1967. I expect we supported Skelmersdale as Hendon had beaten us on the only occasion, at that time, that we'd reached the FA Cup 1st Round Proper.
We enjoyed the match so much, and Skelmersdale won, that we decided to go to Wembley for the final against Enfield (quite a collectors' item seeing a Wembley FA Amateur Cup Final). Perhaps the Wembley occasion was too much for the teams as it was a dire match. I think one of side missed a penalty in extra-time, 0-0 was the final score and Enfield won the replay at Maine Rd, Manchester.
