Hi,

I have just moved to the area and didn’t know that Halesowen had a football club until I ran past it the other day.

Anyway, I’m thinking of coming to some games next season, any advice? i.e. best place to stand, is there any pubs nearby where fan drink before the game, best players to look out for etc etc

I moved to Halesowen 18 months ago and have been going to The Grove since moving. I've really enjoyed it, I hope you do too. I started coming on my own and soon got to know people. The best place to stand depends on your idea of watching football. Stand behind the goal we're attacking and you'll no doubt join in with the singing and vocal encouragement of the players. At home games I usually stand behind the dugout though and have a bit of banter with the opposition manager etc. At away games I always go behind the goal.
As for players, last season we really were a team in every sense of the word, no egos, no superstars and the lads work their absolute plums off for the club. Ben Haseley usually gets the headlines as he is goal machine.
As for places to drink, your spoilt really, The Waggon and Horses, King Edward, The Whitley (and my favourite) The Hawne Tavern have a nice selection of ales. Alternatively, you could go to the Yeltz bar next to the ground or even better support the club by going in the James Grove lounge inside of the ground.
More than happy to meet up with you if you like, but you'll find us a friendly enough bunch.

Well done AVFC... One thing you forgot to tell 'newey' is that we are champions. Surely you haven't forgotten already.

I have to agree with AVFC that the best place to stand vocal wise is behind the goals, but if you want a seat you can sit in the Harry Rudge Stand.

Pubs? No need. We have our own bar on site.

Players? Ben Hasley #10 top scorer two seasons in a row. Tom Tonks #8 Got a good mind and one hell of a throw! Kris Green #2 Great defender. Joe Hull #5. Captain. The list really does go on but as AVFC also said, no real superstars, been a big team effort.

We play in the Evo Stik Northern Prem and were promoted from Division 1 this season after a 2-0 win at Belper Town on the last day to secure us the automatic promotion place. We took in excess of 200 fans, probably 300 or more to that game and our attendances have ranged from about 300-500 this season (been gradually getting better as the season has gone on with better results and the Baggies and Villa not doing as well in the prem which has attracted those fans).

There is one, but it's best off if we don't tell you about them.

Just putting it out there, standing behind the goals is the way to watch football. Plus you avoid the riff raf who stand on the side lines!

As for pre match drinkage, grove bar is fantastic. Any local pub really, they're all in walking distance of the ground.

I often have a ritual of going for a coffee and breakfast in the Cornbow about 10ish. Head for the Royal Oak for 11ish then head to the Grove bar for just before 2 o'clock.

Bloody hell - how the other half live!

You'll find the cognoscenti behind the dugout, but a word of warning - there are a lot of walking sticks and crutches to negotiate, but the craic is great!

Stand where you think you enjoy it the most.

James Grove bar inside the ground opens 12 noon Sats and I think 6 pm on night games enough alcohol for anyone.
