NPL team of the season

Post by RobYeltz » 06 Apr 2014, 22:23

Sean Bowles - Coalville

Danny Smith - Leek
Cameron Stuart - Coalville
Phil Watt - Belper
Craig Slater - Chasetown

Andrew Gascoigne - Sheffield
Sam Hall - Leek
John Johnson - Leek

Jordan Johnston - Leek
Gary Bradshaw - Scarborough
Jon Froggatt - Belper

What a brilliant motivational tool for John Hill to use. Shows really what we've been saying all season - NO SUPERSTARS but a TEAM

To have one individual on that team would mean the rest of the team should be on there. Everybody has been as good as each other this season and to name an individual would be cruel on the rest of them

It was voted on by the managers in the league by all accounts.

A few managers have certainly showed sour grapes during post match interviews...an extension of this, perhaps?

It says to me that the players listed in the team are carrying the rest of their respective teams, but ours is a team that is greater than the sum of the parts.

I know which of those scenarios I would prefer ;D

Just commented, I don't see how fans can give an honest vote, we see each team in our leagues twice at most. It's not like the Premier League etc when you can catch highlights, watch a lot of live games and so on.

Not knocking the awards but it does seem to be a bit of a 'who has the most fans' award rather than an actual player of the season award.

Don't see any realistic alternative, however.

We have more fans than Coalville, Leek and Belper- so how can that be true?

I was a little disappointed that we didn't have any players in the XI, especially as it's nice to have the external recognition, but I can see why we probably didn't. I'm sure most would be inclined to agree that Ben is our star player, but if he missed roughly ten games in the middle of the season, then that's ten managers that will have only seen him once (and in the case of Sheffield and Loughborough, not at all). Curtis and Joe have been rock solid but you'd struggle to pick one over the other. The midfield has gradually chopped and changed. The one player you'd genuinely expect to see in there is Green at right back- and I have no excuses on this one, as I'd be amazed if there's been a better (and more consistent) right back elsewhere in the league.

another point, despite haseley missing those games he's still 3rd top goalscorer and doesnt take the penalties which makes it all the more impressive considering those around him are taking them and have quite a few
