St George's Lane

Worcester City play their last game at St. George's Lane tomorrow. Many memories of Yeltz games there including September 1967 when a Johnny Rowley goal earned us an FA Cup replay in front of 3,059 fans. The midweek replay (we lost 0-2), kicked off at 4.30pm as we didn't have floodlights in those days.
In 1999, we won a 4-3 thriller when Paul Birch chipped their goalie from outside the penalty area and Steve Piearce scored a hat-trick; McDonnell, Crisp, Reed, Wood, Lloyd, Gardiner, Birch, Elmes, Piearce, Bradley, Smith. subs:Cooper, Owen, Wright #ripsgl

Have some good football memories of the place too but let's be honest the parking was always a nightmare. This became even worse when a whole line of us got parking tickets (reason unknown) for parking on an unused trading estate nearby once . Apparently some local had a mate who was a parking attendant, tipped him off and about 30 cars suddenly got visited during the game and had to extract the dreaded ticket from our windscreens. Allegedly he achieved his weeks target during the first half of the match! Most expensive local non league football day out and haven't been back since.
Without sounding like a tight a...., let's hope that if they share Kiddys ground they stil charge normal prices.

This is either their 1959 4th round FA Cup tie vs The Gay Blades or a Worcester Senior Urn match against us from a similar period.

Is that a young Les Randle on the extreme right? And LLL 346th from the L on the 3rd row?

And, as a Friday afternoon quiz, what is the word missing from the end of the roof of their shed?

Nobody under 50 allowed to answer, OK Westy?

Goalie should be England international Alan Hodgkinson if it's Sheff Utd:

not sure:

Struggling to read what's on top of the roof (age I know) could be Lane or Co-op?

It's also Cambridge City's last match at Milton Rd today:

My last memory of there is in our dark days of the fag smuggler >:( when he walked around the ground with the Gray's Chairman and we ended up with a loan signing from Tilbury the following Saturday. I guess it complemented our Reserves at the time who came from Tottenham. Happy days.
I also remember Micky Gorman being knocked out by a wayward blast from Jason Owen at Milton Road.
