If I'm on honest BB I reckon it should've been put up on the official Halesowen Town facebook page :LBBNOW100 wrote:OK, enough talk. Let's do this thing. I'm going to hold a vote on West Midlands Non League Football Page (Facebook). Just follow the instructions and let's whittle it down to 10, then 5, then 1. Here's the link to the page...

My absolute pet hate - when people quote more than 100% - I just thought I would share that with you!Noggin wrote:Selfie,

It is not something that I would normally do, and I would usually agree with you. However, I happen to know that it's one of Selfie's pet hates too, which is why I made the remark somewhat tongue-in-cheek in his direction
Back on thread, all the evidence is that the element of Yeltz supporters who use Facebook and similar services is quite low

Re: What Song Should The Yeltz Run Out To?
A great topic but just a few observations from the last 23 years of trying this (to add to Noggin’s earlier criteria):
Instrumentals work much better than vocals (as teams have to be read out etc.) and ideally it should last at least 4 minutes in total from player entrance time to kick-off time. Copying the latest trend from other clubs or using a latest modern track doesn’t seem to foster anything special about HTFC, the track quickly tires and no-one really gets behind it. The tune should be inspirational, uplifting and preferably unique to Halesowen Town. Well over 50% will always disagree with what is played – Darude/Sandstorm was stopped after I had plenty of ‘stop that terrible racket’ type complaints and was once also noted/ridiculed in an NLP article from the Grove! The modern build-up with the player handshakes has also somewhat reduced the effect of entrance music – also referees seem more unreliable on the time before kick-off that they lead out the teams, it can be 2:58 or later sometimes (it always used to be earlier, leaving ample time to read out teams etc).
We currently use The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony (instrumental), which is used for ITV internationals and works reasonably OK, after previously using Thin Lizzy – Boys are Back in Town (this was also used pre-season). Before that we’ve had Ride of the Valkyries – Wagner, Sandstorm – Darude and lots of TV football theme tunes from the late 1980s onwards, such as The Big Match etc. None ever became close to our hearts as ‘our tune’.
What we’ve never been able to find is our own unique Halesowen tune for us to ‘own’ (in the mold of Corby’s ‘Steelmen’). Maybe that’s what we need to find or decide upon, so it’s a pity ‘Oh what a beautiful morning’ is so dour. Maybe it’s time for re-mixed upbeat version! Although I’ve often had the thought we should edit/mix one verse of say 20 seconds or so of this to the end of some other tune??
There was a thread on exactly this topic on an old forum several years ago and I managed to keep all the suggestions raised then – I’ll post them shortly. No consensus was ever reached as a result of this though, with plenty of divided opinion and plenty of suggestions that just wouldn’t work for a PA announcer. Also, from the last time I investigated all this, I have a list of tunes currently used at all football league grounds to give the general idea of what works – there are more old, quirky ones in there than you would imagine. Who would imagine Z-Cars would still be played at two grounds. Again I’ll post them (perhaps in a separate thread) later.
Finally, a couple of operational things to bear in mind that you may not be aware of: The balance of the PA system (and hence the volume) between speakers around the ground is not as good as when first installed - largely because of the open terracing. Here there used to be speakers on the old set of 4 floodlights along the terrace, now we have just 2 trying to do the work to cover one end of the ground to the other. The result is that a medium level of music in most of the ground would be deafening to anyone (inc. guests, directors) in the Harry Rudge Stand. Hence I can only really use the levels to the max acceptable level in the HR stand, meaning elsewhere it can be fairly quiet, especially for a noisy or large game. This is why we can’t simply bang up the volume to create a better atmosphere. Secondly, if any radio reporters, especially Bridge, are on air or commentating on the game from the HR Stand, they can be drowned out by loud music.

Re: What Song Should The Yeltz Run Out To?
Fair comment about social network sites, however don't underestimate the power of social networking in gaining new fans. I followed Halesowen Town and a few other non league teams for that matter whilst going up the Villa every week last season. When I moved to Halesowen last December I went to as many games as I could last season at the Grove and this season I've not renewed my Villa season ticket as I've chosen to follow the Yeltz. With more fans turning their backs on the greed league, it would be silly for Halesowen to not use social networking to try and attract new fans. From what I gather, the gates are up this season already, by Yeltz fans tweeting and facebooking, it may help to increase the gate further. I agree, it shouldn't be the 'be all and end all' but it is raising awareness of the good work going on, on the pitch and off it. I wouldn't be going to Halesowen this season had it not been for the regular twitter updates and it gaining my attention.Noggin wrote:It is not something that I would normally do, and I would usually agree with you. Re: What Song Should The Yeltz Run Out To?
I was my no means disparaging social networking as a valuable tool in the right place, merely pointing out that there are many Yeltz supporters of far longer standing than me that do not use it and that using something like Facebook and so on to be the total means of collecting opnion on the topic in hand would be wrong.
it is a technology tool and as as such has it's uses which have obviously grown like topsy over the last 36 months, but it is not the only way forward

Any polls etc we do should be agreed in an official context first and put through the official channels to make it fair for everyone.

We could use the theme from Requiem For A Dream by Clint Mansell (I know he's from Stourbr*dge but we're able to be bigger than that!), or the Old Spice music
