From a dramatic September, 30 years ago:
24/09/1988 FA Trophy 1st Round: Gainsborough Trinity 1 Halesowen Town 0
Halesowen Town’s traumatic season took another twist at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday when a fluke 85th minute goal dumped them out of the FA Trophy at the first hurdle.
Trenton Wiggan, probably the best striker on view, landed the hammer-blow five minutes from time when his looping header fooled everyone before nestling in the back of the net.
“It was bitterly disappointing to go out of the competition to a goal like that”, said acting manager Harry Rudge.
Rudge, who is in charge of team affairs after the dramatic resignation of Paddy Page, quickly refuted suggestions after the match that the Halesowen committee offered Page an ultimatum: “Resign or you’re sacked”. “We did not put that to him and I resent rumours that we did. We wanted a chat with him as we are entitled to do and he responded by resigning,” said Rudge.
Rudge also pinpointed the reasons which led to the “chat”. “Our crowds had already fallen from 800 to 600 in the space of three games and naturally we were concerned. If things had continued unchecked our support may even have dwindled to 300-400” he said.
Team: Andy Hughes; Mark Penn, Stuart Cash, Micky Guest, Eric Smith, Richard Hancox, Malcolm Hazlewood, Sean Flynn, Stan Jones, Paul Joinson, Lee Joinson. Subs: Noel Orbell, Ray Anslow. Attendance: 225
(Hughes was already the third goalkeeper used that season after Alan Stephenson and Nicky Adams).

Re: FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
The day of The Noggins' nuptials and nearest game to Josh’s birthday was the 1-1 home draw against Coventry Sporting on Saturday 3rd. September 1988. The attendance was 677 and the Yeltz goalscorer was Stan Jones. The line-up that day was: Nicky Adams; Mark Penn, Stuart Cash, Eric Smith, Steve Morrall, Richard Hancox, Malcolm Hazlewood, Sean Flynn, Stan Jones, Paul Joinson, Lee Joinson. Subs: Peter Sturgess, Ray Anslow.
Cue the Anslow/Jones/Cunningham debate! Sylvo’s last appearance was in the 1-0 defeat at Willenhall on 29th August after curiously being converted to a centre-half for the previous first two games of the season (presumably to accommodate Stan Jones).

So it was Harry !! I'd got this vision of Henry Crampton out on the pitch with the players.
And it's me getting over excited at suddenly getting a T20 ticket
