Had a good clear out and bought in a number of players who'd arguably walk into our current starting 11. Good business - not really a 'throw of dice'? Ultimately you could argue that's the benefit of holding onto your manager and not sacking him. Maybe a future lesson for us, should things turn for the worse?piearce9 wrote:In hindsight, you might say it was nonsense, but Stour fans I spoke to had the knives out for Hackett in the second half of last season. The performance at our place was embarrassing- you didn't even get a sniff at goal when we beat you in April. He got a stay of execution based on his long service, and knew he had to get it right early doors this term. He has, which is why you're now on here giving him the thumbs up.The Reasonable Man wrote:Interesting that you say this.piearce9 wrote:Hackett had one last throw of the dice in the summer.
Nonsense, of course, but still interesting...
In fairness it's still early doors. And Stour could plumit down the league due to Hacket's poor management. We'll wait and see, I guess.
Ps. It's funny how you mention that match in April. You're quite right we dominated and 2-0 flattered Stour - they were lucky to get 0.
The way Stour performed (or didn't) is very reminiscent of a lot of the games I've seen this year from us Yeltz. Granted it's improved, a little, of late (since the introduction of Daniels).
It's interesting to compare the two teams over the past two years.
Reading the Stour forum last year and how their fans bemoaned the football played, and noting the number of players used in a season...that could be us this season. It's certainly a similar scenario, isn't it?
