Played and managed for us, both to very good effect. But left us after receiving a 12 month ban from the FA for betting irregularities - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-he ... r-10742149

Being a new supporter, I don't know much about Matt Clarke. Looking at the history page, his record doesn't look too bad. Can anyone enlighten as to what his playing style was etc

Certainly played a lot more football than at present. He was substituted a player for booting the ball upfield instead of playing it out.

Re: Breaking News
A busy day all in all with John's statement, Trevor leaving and now Matt Clarke returning.
John talked in his statement about changes and moving forwards, and clearly these changes haven't all come together just today! Trev leaving will leave a big hole but John clearly feels the need to make a change. Good luck to Trev and thanks for all your efforts. I always found him very approachable, honest and appreciative of the fans. Welcome to Matt too, I wasn't around when he was at the Yeltz so I look forward to seeing him in action with a completely clean slate.

Re: Breaking News
Gutted that Trev has left the club, nice guy who always gave anyone the time of day to have a chat. Thanks for all he did for us as assistant manager and wish him all the best for the future.
As for Matty Clarke, welcome back to the club. I do vaguely remember him being manager for us but it was at the time when there was the 'circus' of events going on around the club with bad press after bad press and yes Doc, I do remember about his ban now you've brought it up. My visits to The Grove around that period were very infrequent as due to the shenanigans going on I sort of lost interest however I do remember we had Stefan Moore playing for us at that time and although we had a 10 point deduction and were banned from the FA Competitions we finished just outside the playoffs.
It seems clear from his statement earlier today that that John wasn't very happy at all with the last few matches and the results. It seems like he wants to go in a different direction in order to progress and I expect big changes to happen before the start of the season. It will be interesting to see who stays and goes now.
