I wonder how likely it is that the football season will be suspended?

Things are certainly ramping up with the virus now. Italian and Spanish sides playing behind closed doors, Italy on complete lock down. In America they have suspended the basketball season, after an NBA player tested positive for COVID.

I feel like it's only a matter of time before football in this country is negatively impacted. Why couldn't this happen last season? And not during arguably our best ever season? Certainly our best season in 30 years!

You couldn't write it. Not after all the negative dross we've suffered over the past 4 or 5 years.

Unfortunately, I’ve been thinking about this myself lately! With non league football being so open with fans all mixed and free to go wherever, it begs the questions in when the shut down of matches we’ve seen from bigger leagues coming our way!

Sorry, multiple posting but Dutch Ref says Netherlands have suspended. We can't be far behind, and yes Josh it would be an absolute tragedy for our Club

I agree a suspension would be very disappointing, but we can't say it's a tragedy although I know it's just common hyperbole these days.

I'm guessing both games may end up being behind closed doors in which case getting to Wembley would be even more important, assuming that by mid May restrictions may be lifted.

I’d be very surprised if next Saturday was behind closed doors. My guess is that it will be another fortnight before we see any escalation of action on this (I may be wrong) and even then, the guidance may just be for old people or those at risk to avoid crowds.

The government seem to want to keep things as normal as they can for as long as possible. With Easter four weeks away, they want to get as close as they can before closing stuff down. Less optimistic about the away leg, but even then think we might be ok.

It will be what it will be. Lives are ultimately more important but what an absolutely gut wrenching time for it to happen. I'm more concerned that if the season is abandoned that we are top when it happens! Should we reach the final I'm sure it's not beyond the bounds of the FA to play it in preseason should there be a blanket ban of matches.

The peak for this virus outbreak is expected to be May/June.
This could mean that both the FA Cup and Trophy finals could be postponed - or played behind closed doors.
I agree with Andy - this major problem is more important than football.
Is that heresy? 🤐

Just heard on WM that the EFL is suspended until April 3rd at least. Premier league is expected to grow suit. Just wondering how long before non league gets suspended?

Club just put this on Twitter: https://twitter.com/halesowentownfc/sta ... 83937?s=21

Following this morning's announcement from the Premier League and EFL, the Southern League and the National Game System will be discussing the situation this afternoon.

Once we have any further information we will communicate it to you all.

I cannot see any other outcome other than the Southern League suspending all matches in line with the Premier and EDL leagues.
