What and miss the big gate. I wonder if Barwell use all their concessions on away game free entry?

You may get a few extra traditionalists.

Weather forcast temps to be 7/8 tomorrow and as high as 11 new years day.

I think it will be on.

It would appear from the replies that there is minimal concern among forum contributors regarding the point of this thread.
I know that it is the same for both teams and we have beaten the top of the table recently on it. However, by its name HTFC is a football club and the game is intended to be played on a grass surface. Therefore, surely, that should be the most important item to be looked at before the start of each season.
Once the pitch reaches the point of no return then it is a far more expensive outlay than regular correct treatment.

Sorry Lutley for going off pist (hope spealt correct).

It would be good next close season to have the professionals in - this is not a slight on those who have and do the work.

Also to hear from a non financially gaining professional what can be done during the season.

Bearing in mind costs, equipment available and non league so really can not afford half a dozen full time ground staff.

It should be of concern if players are more concerned over the bobble \ bounce on our pitch than that of others they have played on this season.

However, does this affect our form? So far this season.

Home 4 wins 5 draws 3 losses
Away 4 wins 4 draws 3 losses

I also think it's an important issue.

We all know that come May the pitch will be in a terrible state.

As soon as the final whistle is blown at the end of the season the pitch should be immediately looked after and worked on daily.

I know next to nothing about maintaining a football pitch but I do know that abandoning it for weeks on end isn't the way forward.

Easier said than done but we need to get someone in who knows exactly what they're doing from the last kick of the ball in our last home game and maintain it daily throughout the summer months.

The lack of care, thought and planning was so frustrating last season.

Seeing Colin Brooke's walking round the pitch collecting various rocks and other debris for a good while, days before our first pre season match spoke volumes last summer.

Quite frankly I'm embarrassed at the state of the pitch and embarrassed it's in the state it's in despite the hard work and man hours put in by very good people.

In short it needs a plan! And regular maintenance!

Summed up very well.
It is no good having a great lounge for fans to enjoy if the showpiece of the ground is a mud heap.
Yes, embarrassing is the word.

I've done some (very limited) pitch maintenance in the past having worked in the sport and leisure industry for a while. I worked at a place that was an athletics venue as well as football and we had one week to do whatever essential work was done as the football season ended and the athletics season began. The verti draining, top soiling, seeding, fertilizing, re turfing etc was done during that week as was the marking out of the athletics on the field. It was chaos, but needed good organisation and planning. During the athletics season the pitch was still regularly cut, fed, and of course watered daily. It was also very expensive, but it helped the football pitch during the season. We had two teams use the pitch, who played at home on alternate Saturdays and they played probably once a month each during midweek. Regular work was done on the pitch of course during the season and most importantly after each game - replacing divots etc.

The issue really is, does the extra income from the other teams using the pitch cover the damage being done to it? I see other teams like Tividale for example who generate a load of money through their social club. (Their average gate is around 100). We have 400 plus folk attend a game on average how many of them use the bar before, during or after the game to help the club generate money? At Tividale there isn't a local pub on the estate so the social club has become a regulars pub, which has people in it generating money every day of the week. They don't spend masses on the pitch but I know they have a bigger squad than us, and they're squad size (and quality) certainly helped them gain promotion last season. At Halesowen this doesn't happen, the amount of pubs nearby and The Yeltz Bar prevent this from happening. I know the James Grove Lounge can be hired out for functions etc but how often does this happen and how much is generated from it?

Fortunately Chris and Selfie have done a great job in gaining additional advertising this season which of course helps a lot. I guess if more people came to The Grove, spent more in the ground then there may be a possibility we wouldn't need extra teams playing on the pitch as revenue. I agree though that more expertise is needed at the ground. Ant is a top bloke and the volunteers who helped him in the summer did a great job, but volunteers (in my opinion) should be a bonus - not a necessity. We would not have played any games pre-season at The Grove without the volunteers - this should never happen again. Just an opinion of course.

It is now requested by a higher authority that we don't comment on "the pitch." ???

My limited pitch and gardening knowledge prevents technical contributions about the pitch, but here are a couple of thoughts.... When I have been struggling to stay upright in the mud when walking the dog and yesterday struggled with a wave effect caused by the wind on my Bovril, isn't it amazing we have had decent football at all?! My guess is that we need lots of warm sunshine on the pitch and for it not to be played on for a few weeks. This won't happen. The team could have resorted to hoof in the air tactics but have not and we have gratefully shared their frustrations, rather than blamed them. Well done to all on getting pitches playable, trying to keep the ball on the grass or mud and for some at times better football than we watched for years -even over the festive period when some of us also struggled to chase the dog, never mind a football.
