Re: Stourbr*dge
If the "well run" comment is to suggest that by being better run we can make signings like Geddes, then that is not only misguided but unfair too.
I would argue that Stourbr*dge have found themselves with c£50k of spare cash from a superb cup run, and are putting some back into the playing squad. And why wouldn't they, as they have plenty to play for still.
I'll remind everyone again- there were about 4 teams from our level of the pyramid that got to the second round of the cup. So this isn't a case of us not living up to expectations (we got a rotten draw and were beaten fairly), but them lot down the road exceeding expectations.
Their progress is not great for us, and it doesn't bode well for Saturday, but give them credit where it's due and stop using it as a reason to be critical!

A Halesowen company sponsored the Boxing Day game last season as well (Sandvik) and a man of the match from both teams was chosen.Steve Glass wrote:If we have already started the mischievous pre-match banter, isn't it great to see a Halesowen company sponsoring a Stourbr*dge home match and does this mean that Asa Charlton has short odds on winning the man of the match award?

Raiden said they had been run well and done well and it's impossible to disagree. We could have had a good cup run too and had the money from that but we didn't do anything, and haven't in the cups for agespiearce9 wrote:If the "well run" comment is to suggest that by being better run we can make signings like Geddes, then that is not only misguided but unfair too.

Well done Stour-bridge.
FA cup prize winnings over the last 6 years will have made a massive difference to the infrastructure of Stourbr*dge, (not taking into account gate money and increased match day revenue of those games and possible TV money) the prize money alone will put them miles ahead of us. Take a look on the FA website here to see the prize money alone. http://www.thefa.com/thefacup/more/prize-fundpiearce9 wrote:If the "well run" comment is to suggest that by being better run we can make signings like Geddes, then that is not only misguided but unfair too.

I struggle to see why people can not realise and appreciate this. Last season we finished above them, they had a poor season and we probably overachieved. This season they've done really well in the cups again and will strengthen their squad further in the next month or so to push up towards the play offs. Geddes has actually cost them a signing on fee, something that we are a million miles away from doing.
Are there things this club could be doing better? Damn right there is! However, for things to get better more people are needed to help this happen. There is hardly a queue of people waiting to help the club. Some in fact actually go out of the way to be as obstructive as possible to the club. There are many people who work their arses off for this club who get little or no mention anywhere who simply if it wasn't for them there would be no club and it wouldn't function at all. How would you think they would feel if they read those kind of comments about the club not being well run? Yes, we all want the club to function better, yes we want a little of the riches and the fame that Stourbr*dge have or have got, but please just be a little more thoughtful in your comments. As for Saturday, it's our XI v their XI, our lot making a row against their lot. Be loud, be proud and whatever your thoughts on the club let's be united in supporting our boys in trying to get 3pts. Maybe just maybe it might make a Yeltz win even sweeter.

Re: S*******dge
Nowhere has anybody said anything about whether Halesowen Town are run well or not. They simply put that Stourbr*dge were seemingly being run well, and on the evidence it's hard to disagree. I'm not really sure why saying that is so shocking

Re: S*******dge
No, but the comment implied they were well run and we're not. Hence why we're not signing the likes of Geddes for a transfer fee. Stour have done brilliantly in the later rounds of the cups to get through and that can't be denied, however they've also had some very favourable cup draws in the earlier rounds for a few seasons - unfortunately we haven't.Yeltz27 wrote:Nowhere has anybody said anything about whether Halesowen Town are run well or not. I will have to look at their cup draw history. What do you mean by people being obstructive as well?RobYeltz wrote:No, but the comment implied they were well run and we're not. Re: Stourbr*dge
My comments re: Stour being well run meant just that. It wasn't a dig at or meant anything to do with Halesowen. It was an observation on the current state of our rivals, nothing more, nothing less.
I agree with Rob above, cup money helps. But it should also be noted that it is only a help, it doesn't guarantee a success.
It's also worth noting that Stourbr*dge have this season achieved good success with Green, Lait, Pierpoint and Tonks. All ex Yeltz players who I would assume would be relatively low wages in comparison to some players who ply their trade in the league and let's not forget up until relatively recently fell within our budget...
I would guess that Geddes is their first real signing where saying 'throwing money at it' is justifiable and not a nonsense. Both in wage, fee and singing on fee.
They have earn't the right, too. A great cup run a few years back (money they earned during that run, of which they still have in the bank, I'm led to believe), add to that their run this year and also their trophy run this season.
It's a good position to be in, and it's all been well managed.

I think you're right there. They've had some good draws over the years but then have come good against Plymouth and this year beat 2 national league prem teams.RobYeltz wrote:

However we certainly haven't had as many attempts recently, as I don't think we played a cup game between losing at home to Maidstone in q3 in 2008 and beating Brocton five years later?
Marske was a reasonable draw we should really have overcome and Guiseley and Nuneaton were tougher assignments where we fell short.

The trouble with the written word, no one can see the emotion behind it and sometimes it can be read two ways.
