Phil Wood & Henry Wright

Post by Laurel Lane Lamper » 02 Jan 2017, 13:26

Not so much 'Where Are They Now?" but "Where They Were", a programme I've recently seen from 1988 Bilston v Wolves.
Could P Wood & H Wright be Phil & Henry?

Chris, I think Phil Wood was still our captain when we played Doncaster In the FA Trophy in 1999/2000. Cracking, composed centre half for quite a few years for us, was part of our superb side that just missed out on promotion to the Conference also.

I remember Mark Peters used to run up and down the wing on my side and shout Woody when he wanted the ball! I agree Doncaster was a cracking day out the man in the paper shop on the Stourbr*dge Road was interested in knowing the result of the replay which went to extra time as I recall

Phil Wood and Stuart Evans - I've always rated them as the best centre back partnership I've seen playing for the Yeltz in over 40 years

Henry Wright was a decent player, but never had the impact that his brother Evran had over his 43 spells at The Grove.
However, one notable event that happened to Henry was that he swallowed his tongue and after some consternation, was OK.
So far, so what?

A few questions about that incident.

Who was it against?
What was unusual about the venue?
What momentous local football event happened a few hours later a few miles down the road?
And a double Yeltz link to that event?

Usual prizes and rules apply...

At their training ground on Saturday morning
Afternoon 'incident' Blues lost To Kiddy at home in the FA Cup, and I went to both matches.

Ooh ooh forgot the last bit.
Scorer for Blues, Paul Harding
Scorer of Kiddys winner Jon Purdie
Both went on to play for us.

If you were Westy I'd get about 6 Georges for that! O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

Almost all correct.

Want one more go at the scorers?
