Steve Hopcroft

Steve Hopcroft appeared 6 times for us in 1995/96, would he be the same person who's now leaving The Hawthorns for Old Trafford?

Definitely the same bloke from the pictures online -

Did he really only play 6 games? I remember him well as a somewhat unreconstructed centre-half in that team. He even had his own song.

I thought he featured more, although it was when Woody and Rodwell were the rocks at the back.

Didn't he come off the bench to score against Merthyr Tydfil in a 2-1 or someone like that!

Hopcroft started 3 times 95/96 - Chelmsford (a) League, Worcs (h) Doc Martens Cup, Gasboys (a) Worcs Sen. 7 more selections as sub, came on and scored at Merthyr.
96/97 3 more starts - 1st 2 matches of that season Crawley (a) & Burton (h) and his final appearance Kings Lynn (a)

Was that Chelmsford match the night of the rain & the Nags Head HH or LLL, or was it after that? Splendid memories or being washed away anyway ;D

We lost 3-0 that night (different season to the 95-96 one, probably the year after), and Kev Hathaway drove us down there and his windscreen wipers broke on the way home whilst it lashed it down. Happy days with captain marvel ;)

It was either that Chelmsford game or one around that time that spawned a novel song. I recall many of us were already in the ground post drinkies, when Charlie shambles in on the other side. With a new supermarket carrier bag!!! The resounding "Charlies got a new bag" will always be one of my favourites. ;D

That was probably one of the only songs from around then that I actually understood as well. :D
